The Student Center will close for renovation on December 20, 2024, according to Florissant Valley Campus President Elizabeth Perkins. In preparation for the impending construction, which is part of the district-wide construction project known as STLCC Transformed, offices and services at the Student Center are being temporarily moved to other buildings.
The cafeteria will remain open until December 13, after semester classes have officially ended. After that, it will close to the public, but STLCC plans to provide alternative food services until it reopens. At the time of writing, plans for continued food service have not yet been finalized, according to Auxiliary Service Manager Julie T. Stillman, but back in September, I was told by Sky Lufsey, district coordinator of college communications: "Our auxiliary and dining service teams are working on options for grab-n-go items that will be available during the cafeteria’s closure. A location for this temporary service is still being determined based on health and food safety inspections scheduled for later this month.” An internal memo shared with The Forum has since identified the Science and Math Building as the temporary location that STLCC’s food services will move to. The Forum will provide updated information on food services once we’ve been informed of official plans to continue them, in our first edition of the spring semester.
Some offices have already begun moving out of the Student Center. Campus Life, Veterans Affairs, Black Male Achievers (BMA), and New Student Programs (NSP) began moving on Nov. 18. The Forum has been told to begin moving out of our office on Dec. 9, the same day that the Access Office, the Student Advocacy and Resource Center (SARC), Counseling, and the Child Care Means Parents In School (CCAMPIS) program will also be moving out of their Student Center offices. TRIO will subsequently move between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. The Forum will be moving to the Communications Building along with NSP, BMA, TRIO, CCAMPIS, SARC, Counseling, and Veterans Affairs, while Campus Life and The Access Office will be moving to the Administration Building.
STLCC Transformed expects that programs temporarily relocated will move into their new permanent spaces by the end of 2025.
