The beginning of every semester is always busy with students finding their classes, meeting their teachers, forming new groups or returning to old ones, and learning to navigate in a new environment.
Therefore, I wasn’t surprised to find myself in a long queue with dozens of other students adjusting their schedules during the first week of the semester. Having to wait for a little more than an hour I decided to tour the newly renovated Student Center to see the Cafeteria and Campus Store.
As editor of this student newspaper, I wanted to check out our new Forum office and headed down to the lower level past the bookstore and across from the TRIO office. When I turned down the hall, I found a mysterious liquid flooding into our hallway from the accessible bathroom.
I notified the nearest staff member who called for help, so luckily the flood was mostly localized to the hallways and never made it down to The Forum office or Campus Radio Station KCFV 89.5 The Wave. (Come check us out when you get a chance!)
With the flood now contained and repaired, I still had some time to settle in with other students while I waited. As usual, this campus works together to help students. In the next moment I saw Campus Vice President Julie Massey with a laptop in hand walking around to assist students add and drop classes. She helped several students, including me, to shorten the line.
I would like to give a special thank you to our Counseling team for fighting through the onslaught that struck our first week, and a big thank you to Vice President Massey for swooping in to keep the train moving. We’d be nowhere without you all.
