Welcome back to another semester at STLCC Flo Valley. There are some big changes coming to campus, and we at the Forum wanted everyone to be in the know about what's what and where changes will take place.
First we have four buildings planning to come down soon amid the renovations. The buildings slated for demolition are P.E., Administration, IR (Library), and Communications. These buildings, as of right now, will transform into green spaces with the possibility of the Comm building space partially adding more parking to add a bit more accessibility to the campus. All services from each building will be transferred into the newly renovated Student Center and AI (Administration Instructional) building. Currently, there are no plans to replace any of the buildings coming down.
The remodeling has everything covered from the AI to the Student Center. The Student Center will continue to host its original services, including the Student Resource & Advocacy Center, as well as the beloved Archer’s Market. Student Support and Advising also will be transferring into the Second Floor.
The cafeteria, originally on the second floor of the Student Center, will be moving to the first floor, with the second floor shifting to an office and support orientation while the first floor will become a student activity and recreational area. The Student Center also will contain the IR building’s Art Gallery and the Comm building’s Music Room/Orchestra Room. For gamers who formerly used the TV in the corner by the cafeteria, they’ve included a space with a TV and elevated couches to hook up consoles and have plenty of room to game with your friends!
Surely all of you academics are most concerned about the resources and textbooks available in our local library. Allow me to alleviate your concerns as all our academic aids will be making their way into the AI building, including but not limited to all the books and materials from our current library plus room for more. All the current academic aids and study rooms will be making the transfer as well.
Online class workshops will also be available to teachers, offering a creative space for our educators to jazz up their online class meetings. In addition, the AI building will feature a college prep class to prepare students to reach reading and math levels as they begin their college journey.
And as we all know, a strong body makes a strong mind. As we say goodbye to the PE building, we welcome the new fitness center to campus! The center will feature state-of-the-art equipment and new locker rooms as well as multipurpose studios for all fitness needs.
The renovations are expected to be wrapped up by late December or early January.
Overall, vast changes are happening here at Flo Valley and we cannot wait to see them. Stay tuned and read the Forum as campus updates become available.
