Here is a sneak peek at the Student Center’s transformation progress and everything you can expect when it opens its doors to the public in the Spring.
First on our list of major changes is that the 2nd floor will no longer be home to the cafeteria. On entry to the Student Center, you will now find all student services spanning the hallway including Student Access Resource Center (SARC), The Access Office, and Cashier’s Office. On top of that our multipurpose room, once hidden by heavy wooden doors, is now visible behind newly implemented glass doors for all passersby to view when entering the Center.
I bet you were worried about the cafeteria, but hold on to your hats because we’re taking a trip down to its home on the first floor. As we descend, please note the new and improved staircase, seemingly taking a page out of the advanced manufacturing buildings design, with seating located adjacent to the stairs. Once you’ve taken your final step, you’ll see it opening onto the common area, which takes up the entire first floor, expanding all the way out to the outdoor patio.
Note the decadent smell that may have crossed your nose when you were walking down the stairs. That would be the cafe located directly to your right. On your left you’ll find the Campus Store where you’ll be able to purchase your class materials, spirit wear, and merchandise.
As you venture through the first floor, you’ll also find the Media Hub! Home to The Forum newspaper office, radio station KCFV, and Mass Media Club. This new space will include some high-end recording booths, computers, and even a green wall to really let your creative flag fly high.
The Student Center is set to first open its doors in December. However, not all services may be fully up and running until Spring semester. We at the Forum cannot wait to see you all there.
